Summer 2024 Prathertown Community Development Corporation Hosted 12 High School Students via Summer RISE

Updated: Sep 13

Summer RISE (Reimagining an Innovative Student Experience) is an initiative led by the Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) Department of Partnerships in collaboration with businesses, government agencies, higher education institutions, and nonprofit organizations. The program is for rising MCPS juniors and seniors to participate in a career-based learning opportunity during the summer.  Staff and volunteers at Prathertown Community Development Corporation exposured students to over 50 career opootunities.

Students collected and distributed emergency preparedness kits and provided training to well lived residents in Prathertown.  With the generous contributions of sponsors kits included: a transistor radio, blanket, whistle, water, hot hands, lantern, medicine, emergency contact information and food.  Through this effort students learned to plan, budget, organize, research, document, communicate their pitch, advocate, problem solve, collaborate and manage time efficiently.

At the conclusion of their assignment, students prepared their first resume, set up a LinkedIn profile, created a USAJobs account and performed mock interviews.  To sponsor or volunteer for the next cohort please email us at info@prathertown.org
